don’t deal with ace canopy – mike –

On march 18 , 2010 I ordered a 6 pole heavy duty enclosed canopy from Ace canopy, AKA Tarpsplus , and Abadak. On June 18 we decided to set it up to make sure we knew how to prepare for the summer craft show season. When I opened up the pipes they had not been de burred when they were cut. The insides of every pipe had a razor sharp burr on it. I thought it shouldn’t have been overlooked before shipping but I went ahead and filed them all smooth. Then we started to set up the canopy. I had to file the inside and outside of every pipe and connector to even get it to go together. Another little aggravation. Then when we got the frame together and started to attach the canopy we found out that all the bungee cords were 12 in long instead of 6 in like the packages said. We had to wrap the cords twice to get them to work and then things really went wrong. The top tarp was not wide enough. The gable end tarps were not wide enough. After failing to get any of the tarps to fit I did a little measuring. THEY sent me a 11′ x 9′2″ frame, and tarps for a 10 x 10.
That’s when I e mailed them, repeatedly. Took them 3 days to respond and then only after calling. They needed my order # which I sent them. In a weeks time, countless e mails and several phone calls the only response I can get is ” sorry for your inconvenience but its not under warranty”. I asked them to explain to me what the warranty has to do with anything. I ordered a 10 x 10 , paid for a 10 x 10 , and my receipt is for a 10 x 10. I got a 11 x 9′2″ frame . I have repeatedly asked for a supervisor but can’t get one to respond. To date Ace canopy has refused to address this problem .
As of July 9 2010 I have corrected the problem myself. I purchased exhaust pipe to replace the pipes that were too short , recut the ones that were too long , purchased new bungee ball straps for a total of 4.00 . With the initial cost of 9.94, and 4.00 for replacement parts my new canopy is a whopping 3.94 This doesn’t include the 2 days labor I lost working on this problem

This canopy was good for the price. It does not appear to made for continuous use over the long term. I do not intend to leave it up all season long, but rather as needed. It stores neatly in my shed when not in use, in the carrying bag.

As most folks recommend, this is fairly easy to set up with two folks. I can set it up alone, working carefully so as not to bend the legs or frame.

Do NOT buy this tent. The advertised five minute set up time is a joke; it took us about 45 minutes. This thing is extremely difficult to set up without 4 people knowing exactly what they are doing- and, really, who knows what they’re doing the first time they set something up anyway? It is extremely flimsy- several support bars bent very easily- the manufacturer put holes for screws to go through weakening the aluminum supports. The support brackets which stabilize the aluminum support bars are plastic (which are virtually worthless for strength). I purchased this tent to set up in my backyard for shade, then take it to picnics or other outdoor events, but I will not put myself through the process of putting it up (again) and taking it down. It’s set up in my backyard now, and I actually dread taking it down. And there is no way in Hell I’m putting up back up again. I’m thinking of going to Home Depot and buying PVC pipe and creating my own frame, using the canopy, and tossing the piece-of-crap frame in recycling. Save yourself the aggrevation- do NOT buy this.

I bought this canopy for an indoor, industrial, manufacturing operation. We used it inside for 6 months and it worked fine for shielding light. Since I have been using it outside for events. It works fine and was of low cost. It has thin aluminum legs, so it wouldn’t take much abuse but it’s light enough to haul to a parade or tailgating. Just don’t use it for your art-fair booth. For something that needs to be up for days on end, loosen up the purse strings and plan to spend 0-0.

I was a little skeptical buying this online but I am so glad I did. It takes two people to setup but its so easy and fast. To take it down is just as simple and quick. I’ve only used it on days that were not windy so I can not vouch for how it stands up under those conditions. All I can say is so far so good. I recommend!
